I am planning another build soon with a budget of up to £1500 and I am wondering is DDR4 worth it? DDR3 is a lot cheaper and with the money saved can either go towards better graphics card etc or just money saved in general.

The other thing is would a i5-4690K or i7-4790K fit in a DDR4 Motherboard? I think not because those 2 chips are 1150 socket and the DDR4 motherboards are 2011 socket but let me know if I am wrong on that. Those chips are also cheaper than the 2011 socket ones.

I think right now DDR3 should be good enough to hold up for a few years yet and DDR4 can wait, but if you think otherwise let me know cheers

You are correct, the 4690 & 4790 have DDR3 controllers and will only run on DDR3 boards ans will only fit socket 1150.

What is the main use of the pc?

Another option is to wait for intels new skylake cpu's, new socket and chipset that will utilise ddr4. Should be out in a few months time.

Mainly gaming but also screen recoridng and video editing. I know cpu is more for video encoding etc I just dont see what DDR4 significantly offers over DDR3

See you take a few months away from current events in the hardware world and when you come back theres loads of new things on the horizon  I will check that out.

comparing memory solely, my understanding is main benefit at current speeds, real world, is lower power usage (meaningless for desktop users).

if you already have right speed dd3 then moving to ddr4 is a hard sell to find value in..
