I'm trying to hook up my NTL set top box to my WRT54G which has been flashed to the ddwrt firmware but it doesnt seem to pick up the WAN IP using the automatic DHCP setting :/

Has anyone had any experience with this before?

Is this the first time you've connected the WRT? If it is, the STB's presumably looking for the MAC address of whatever was connected to it before.

Yep. In DD-WRT menu go to 'MAC Address Clone' and then enter the MAC address of whatever network device was initially connected to the STB (presumably your PC). The NTL STB's tie the MAC address of whatever was used for initial registration and standalone modems don't as I found out recently.

OR... if still having problems.... or can't find taht old MAC address. If you are stuck in NTLs "we don't know that MAC" area, all you need is to register your new MAC. type in this website address and see what happens: http://autoreg.autoregister.net/start.html

This will probally take you to NTL's "new user" page with it's big START button in the middle of the screen. This then allows you to login with your original PID and password (on that very first letter from NTL when you joined). You can then register this new device. (There are slots for four or five registrations, so this isn't a problem)

Cloning the MAC of the old device is often easier. :)

Edit: Scratch my post - just read splitz's post above where he stated that STBs tie the MAC in while SACMs don't :)

Yea i get the MAC registration thing on all the computers after i connect the WRT and reboot the set top box, but its weird because the netgear router which was connected before the WRT wasn't the first device.

I'll have to try and clone the netgear's mac address on the WRT until my ADSL comes through on thursday :D

If you don't have that original sign-up letter with your PID, then you can phone customer support and jump through a security hoops then they will give you our PID again. :)

Lol, it'll probably be quicker if i just wait until thursday till my ADSL is sorted out then i dont have to worry about NTL ever again \o/

Cheers for the help though guys, i need to get my head around this ddwrt firmware, looks pretty good but LOADS of options.

Incidently the DD-WRT firmware seems a little sluggish compared to the standard linksys firmware.

Is this normal?
