De lid. Have I messed up?

Did a de lid the other day of 6700k. No real issues doing the delid. But seem to have Nvidia driver problems since. I can browse do everything else but when it comes to games I get bluscreen or crashes relating to nvlddmkm.sys TDR failures. I have re installed GPU drivers clean with DDU. upped my voltage a little for stability just in case. as I seem to have had plenty of headroom my temps have come down from 75-80 degrees on load to 60. I have looked for workarounds on the internet. Many suggest replacing the file, but this file does not exist on my system even though i have re installed fresh drivers. Which is kinda odd. Anyone else had this issue, perhaps I have bent a pin or something, but I have done CPU intel diagnostics which all pass, Ram passes just, done novabench which works. Just this issue when playing real games?

Is the gpu overclocked?

Yes but just to 4.5 ghz as it has always been from day one. same voltage, same Ram speeds 3200 mhz. I have made no adjustments until a little bump in voltage which has not made a difference. Im thinking perhaps I have got some of the regular thermal past on the inside of the socket. I tried to re seat everything in an upright position which just was to fiddly. Im hoping it`s something like that, or something silly like putting my audio plugs in the wrong socket ect, which might apparently cause driver problems. After I gave up trying to do it upright I disconneted the jumble of connection cables to take the case to a flat table to put the socket in properly. Im assuming that the CPU would ever work or be dead from the deliding and that it must be something else in the process of replacement. As I say it all boots, lovely temps and can browse do diagnostic tests, watch films all on existing overclock, just not intensive games.

It`s a Zotac 1080ti amp extreme. I haven`t messed with it, still on factory overclock, have not removed it from the PCI slot. Was working perfect before no issues. To note last night I did get fifa 18 to work on single screen 720p lowest default options. because i forgot to change the settings. It played on single screen. Just no major demanding titles will work for long before crashing on higher surround resolutions which were comfortable before. For example getting 144fps on triples in titanfall2 no temp problems, smooth as should be until driver crashing.

could be a ram issue i guess. if you knocked something

I have done a memory test and all checks out. Thanks for all your suggestions, rather frustrating but your making me feel a little better knowing it`s not looking like anything to do with the delid as such. I used the die mate, and got most of the old adhesive with my finger nail. The IHS did slide a fraction as I re mounted it, but i guess if that was an issue it would have been a different problem and it would not work at all.

hmmmm, and all power cables are reattached securely to gpu and motherboard?
Yes Iv fiddled to make sure they are secure, but i have never touched them during the CPU delid process. They all just remained in. I might take my GPU out and re seat it later just in case, clutching at straws here.

It sounds like a gpu issue to me. Try running it a little underclocked. Also are you running 1 cable from the PSU that splits into 2x 6pin or is it 2 different cables?

Using a 1300 watt moduler superflower, with two connections into the PSU. Ill give it a go underclocked, But it is at factory settings I have never messed with it, till now it has been flawless.

Sorry for the delay getting back. The reason is because I have now bricked my PC and am using my sons. Makes me realise how important it is because it has taken this long to get into my emails to re set the password for this forum. I always back up stuff for re installing OS ect, but did not foresee this. But you live and learn I suppose.
Yes as I suspected and some have stated, this issue was bent pins re seating the CPU. I took it apart and discovered the damage yesterday afternoon. about 6-7 pins were flattened in a cluster. I tried lifting them up and they look better than what they did, however the PC will not post at all. It tries to keep re starting, eventually it comes on in respect that the lights turn on, the fan lights, keyboard ect but no bios, no windows and no number display on the motherboard. I guess i need a new MB. I did the hard work de lidding correctly but in focusing on the car about that did not pay enough attention to putting the CPU back. Tried to do it with the case in its place in an upright position which kept falling out sliding, tried to re seat it in a cack handed way pushing the heat sink cooler out the way with the side of my hand, another finger trying to hold the CPU in place whilst the other hand trying to push down the lever all with a mobile for the light balancing on the top of my GPU.

So im now in the position of having a good CPU deciding to replace the MB or treating myself to a 8700k. Thing is if i replace the MB will i have to re install windows ect? If i need to do that and lose all my files i might as well do a full upgrade. essentially my biggest issue now is i am locked out of one note being on the HD i can not access. My ex is always ringing up asking to send money in a crisis every other day so getting this information is important to stop her ringing lol. on this note and other passwords can i get access to them from that C : hard drive by putting it in another PC ect and reading it without One note being installed as such?

If you swap motherboards you don't need to reinstall windows. Back in the day you ran into loads of issues but these days you can usually get away with it.

Can i use z270 mb. I think the z170 are no longer easily available. Any fluffing around with bios stuff or just ready to go?

Could it be related to onboard graphics?
I've never done a delid but I saw a video a few days ago where a fella was checking out his 6 month old delid, he found that some of his paste had seeped onto a row of notches under the heat spreader,
He had no issue from it but I imagine it can cause issues if it's over all the notches, Is that a possibility with yours?
You said you used your fingernail to remove most of the paste, Why? No alcohol wipes?

EDIT Never mind I just read your Brick post, That's bad news, Sorry to hear it. :(

In your shoes I'd sell the delidded 6700k cpu and move to an 8700k retail chip, I'd then delid that and go from there. The 8700k's seem to all be good clockers with the majority hitting 4.7 or above so the odds of getting a good overclock once delidded are in your favour. That said if you can find a cheap secondhand motherboard that's also an option. I'd still move on to Coffeelake though.

Regarding the OS install I recently had my MSI B350 motherboard die on me so I bought an Asus motherboard to replace it and I had no issues using the M.2 OS drive with the new motherboard. I booted it up offline initially (I thought I'd mention that even though it's probably irrelevant), When I did go online it was okay & I've had zero issues since.

Thanks for the reply. Just to mention. It was my fingernail i used for the removal of the intel adhesive to make less chance of scratchibg or foing to hard with a card. On your other point yes im toying with exactly what your suggesting and thinking about the 8700k. Ill have a think ay work and decide what to order when i leave.
