Dead 2070 super?

Hi


I’ve just bought an MSI A850GF psu to replace one that was giving error beeps.

when powering up my pc I get

please power down and connect the PCIe power cable for this graphics card. One thing I notice on the 2070 is that there are 2 white led lights and depending on the orientation of the 8 + 6 plugs only one stays lit up.

I’ve just put in my old GTX 970 in to test the motherboard and it works fine.

Any ideas? Is my GPU dead?

I’d look at the PSU. Does the 970 use the same connectors?

yea the 970 uses the same power configuration, 6 + 8 pin

combinations I’ve tried with the psu.

1 single cable with an 8 pin connector and another piggybacking off of it.

PSU (VGA)———-> GPU 6 pin + 8 pin.
PSU (VGA)———-> GPU 8 pin + 6 pin.


2 cables

PSU (VGA)———-> GPU 6 pin + 8 pin.
PSU (VGA)———-> GPU 8 pin + 6 pin.


what I’ve tried so far all produces the same results. When powering up, the PC turns on for 1-2 seconds and both white led power connectors on 2070 light up. The computer then turns turn off and then starts up again on its own. I then get the PCIe power error message.

On the 2070, only the led light with a 6 pin connector stays lit. I’m not sure if that’s normal.

Maybe your old dying PSU cooked the card?

Is there any way you can try the 2070 in a different pc to confirm the fault?

Well, I’ve just stopped swearing like a trooper. Spent ages trying different figurations and searching online.

turns out it’s not 6+8 but wanted me to put in 8+8. Never had to do that before on GPUs.

So if you get this psu wack in all 8 sockets for both headers. I did wonder why when I looked at the connectors it seemed to have 1 missing connection on each one.

Easily done.Glad it was an wasy fix! Dead graphics cards aren't fun at the moment with the crazy prices and zero stock levels.
