I bought a BFG 8800GTS second hand a few weeks ago but couldnt test it as my PSU was a useless old unbranded one without a 6pin pci-e cable.

Anyway, finally bought a Coolermaster Real Power 520W the other day and it arrived this morning. Put everything in my case and pressed the power button... a few LEDs on my motherboard lit up for less than a second then powered down and nothing more. Tried powering up again but nothing happened at all, no LED's lighting or anything.

However, if I turn off the PSU for a minute or two, then press the power button it does the same, lights the LED's momentarily then powers down and nothing else happens.

The power supply is fine, its brand new and used the old paperclip between the green and black wires to make it power on, my watercooling pump works and fans spin so Im guessing it must be down to the graphics card.

Anyway, anybody else had this before? If it is my graphics card, would I be able to send it back to BFG as in theyre warranty is says they'll cover it "for as long as the original purchaser owns the product". Im guessing this card was introduced before 2/21/08 though, which means it did not need to be registered? If so would they have any way of knowing Im not the original purchaser?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks :)

Well Im home and on my computer now. With no graphics card in it starts up... beeps a few times to say theres a graphics card error, which makes sense cos there isnt one haha

But yea, put my old 7300LE in and its booted up and working fine. To me that makes it almost definately the 8800 thats faulty

already tried it again, straight after it booted up, same again, flash of LED's and thats all.

So we think its the card. What about sending it back to BFG? Should I just email them and ask about it?

Contacted them, just wait and see I guess.

Asked me for date and place purchased from, I just left those blank as I got it second hand, will this matter do you think?

I don't know about that one mate. Never had to RMA anything I've bought to do with PC's.

Although, I might RMA my 8800GTS or buy a new card.

Well it has a lifetime warranty so Im guessing it should be fine, but we'll see in a bit! This is the first time ive ever had to RMA somthing too, a bit new to me!

The lifetime warranty will be with the original owner, provided he/she has registered the card with bfg, perhaps get in contact with whoever you bought it from to check on this.

Well sent it off for RMA this morning. Never got asked about providing details of warranty or anything like that, so I dont know... will let you know in a week or so if I get it replaced or not, just hope I do!

Old thread now I know, but just an update.

Sent my card on the 18th, got a new one back yesterday, 23rd. That includes a weekend when they were probably closed for at least 1 day, so Im pretty impressed!! Plus I sent an 8800GTS 320 OC, got back an 8800GT 515 OCX... not bad you ask me :)

Whats with everyone getting these free upgrades recently?! :D

They bought their stuff from quality companies who look after their customers.

Hence why it pays to buy from sombody like BFG, EVGA, NEC, Corsair etc and pay the premium for their products.

LOL sound as that man, the 88-320 is turd! 88gt is a mega improvement and you done well to even get a sniff of the RMA as nearly all manufacturers demand an original receipt before they even entertain you.

Some do, some don't. I have just sent my OCZ psu for a new one under rma (they only give you a new one, not a refurbished one:D) and no receipt required, just the serial number.

They work their warranty out based on either the date you bought it (if receipt available) or one month after being sold to the etailer if no original purchase receipt available which I think is a fair way of doing it.

Yea, I think I have been lucky, but shows its a great company too! Definately sticking with BFG in the future.

Just run a few benchmarks and played a bit of fallout 3, is a pretty big difference to say theyre both 8800 cards. Well impressed :)
