How can you tell there's a 'big difference' though - i didn't think the original GTS had fired up at all?

Mainly through google haha. Just searched for "BFG 8800GTS 3DMark". Most results are for the 512mb card but with a bit of hunting I found some for the 320. Know its not ideal as theyre from different systems, but theres a noticable difference between the scores!

The 88gt is a scaled down version of the 88gtx! Its an excellent card. Although, stay away from eye candy in the likes of Crysis and Farcry 2 as it has low bandwidth and wont be able cope.

Yea, its doing great for now. Had an old 7300LE up til now haha, cant get much worse than that! Would actually play COD4 and Fallout3, just looked awful so I never bothered.
And gt, Fallout seems pretty good so far. If you like oblivion you'll probably like it, same sort of game made by the same people, just quite a different setting

I cant get into it, the fact that you have to literally cut someone in half with bullets to kill them stresses me out!

That with Fallout? Does take quite a bit to kill sombody, thats true haha! I just like it because its a rpg but not your typical knights and wizards kinda game.
Definately prefer COD4 though, legend of a game!
