Hi All, following on from a thread (http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17648872) I posted a couple of weeks ago about a computer that suddenly stopped working.

As per the thread, I figured that the powersupply was the problem, so I swapped it with one which I know to be fine. However, this has not fixed the problem.

When I try to switch the computer on, the CPU fan makes a feeble effort to spin and moves about 1 revolution, then an LED on the motherboard flashes and nothing else happens.

The really strange thing is that once this has happened, it won't happen again unless I switch the power off at the wall and leave it for 30 seconds or so. Then when I switch it back on the same happens again.

By the LED which flashs on briefly there is a some lettering which I think says something like CHRGE STD or something.

Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be, is it a dead motherboard???

Dismantle the entire pc and reconnect eveything form scratch, to make sure nothing is touching anything it shouldnt, as it sounds like its shorting out (not grounded properly).
Then check that youve connected everything properly and see if the HSF and CPU are seated properly.
If the problem persists try disconnected one item at a time to see if it posts like disconnect video card then DVD and work ** way down the list of components, powering it on each time u remove something.
Failing all that will tell u whether or not thwe motherboard is dead or not.
