Hi all,

Just taken delivery of the following items:

i9 9900k
Asrock Taichi ultimate mobo
32gb hynix ddr4
1080ti
850w evga PSU
H115i cooler

Just put it all together, powered on all the LED and fans come on (gfx spins up) but have error code 00 on the readout .Which according to the manual means check CPU is installed and clear cmos.

Have reseated the cpu to no avail. Turned it on quickly without the heatsink on (after reseating it) and even after 30 seconds the cpu is stone cold to touch on top.

Could this be a dead CPU or something else?

:(

Cheers

Just to check, but you do have the seperate ATX connection plugged fully in, it's normally between CPU and IO back plate. There was a similar post recently and the guy had knocked it out during the AIO install...

Idiot questions, I hope. There isn't some film or something underneath the CPU? You did remove the plate in the socket, right? Have you checked BOTH ends of the CPU power cable?

Does it need a BIOS update to support that CPU?

Not as far as I can tell from the website...

Check the socket for bent pins? tried booting it up outside the case to rule out a short?

No bent pins. Will try outside case tonight.

No film, plate removed, both ends checked

Sooooo not a dead anything....

After an evening of troubleshooting. Tried a different PSU and it booted. Took the original PSU out the case and tried and it also booted. Odd.

Plugged everything back in one by one. There are two sata power connections on my case. One only has two wires out the back of it. The other has all of them. Plugging in the one with all wires stops it from booting.

I can't see anything in the case manual (phanteks evolve X) that explains what this is.......

Yeah it has sata power connectors. One for the fan controller and one for the RGB lighting (have just worked out which is which). With the fan controller power connected it boots fine. If I connect the RGB sata power it just sits on the 00 error code.

Presuming there is some kind of short or something going on in the RGB controller

nope.... connecting the D_RGB cable to the programmable RGB header on the motherboard seems to stop it booting. How odd.

Phanteks Evolv X - very odd. No idea whether its the motherboard or the case. But the mb d_rgb connector can't be connected for it to boot. I'm not a huge RGB fan anyway so no huge loss but still
