Hey guys,

Does anyone know what could be causing my laptop to be fuggered? :P

Basically, it was working fine one day, then I get a white screen and it becomes unresponsive. I power down and go to restart but nothing. no power light even when power supply is plugged in, no response from power button.

After a couple of days of messing around trying to see if it was just throwing a fit, I found that for some wierd reason, when I press the 'End' button on the keyboard (just so happens to be the closest button to the power button, although dont think thats relevant tbh since theyre not connected in any way afaik) the fans will kick in, the power LED will come on, but its a red/orange colour, no other signs of life, then it stops again. Does this with battery in or out, but only when the mains is connected.

Does anyone have any idea what is causing this, and is it something I can fix myself?

Cheers in advance :)

If it works fine running on battery only and only does it "when the mains is connected" then that would suggest PSU is kaput or possibly the power port.

and if you'd read the 3rd last sentence you'd have seen that the PSU is working fine :p

OP, it sounds like something on the motherboard's died - possibly the GPU or the northbridge.

if it's still in Warranty get Dell to fix it. if not, it might have been caused by the Studio's well known issues with overheating, in which case Dell are obligated to fix it otherwise it's not fit for purpose, with an inherent defect in it's design ;)
