Hey guys, just wondering if anyone can help me, my gf had an aging 40GB maxtor IDE HDD in her main PC, which seems to be very close to giving up the ghost, when she was using it last week it started clicking, and then windows would freeze for 2-3 minutes at a time, she restarted without backing things up and from then on it wouldn't boot at all, just kept showing it in the bios etc, but nothing on boot options.
I've bought the drive here, put it in an external caddy, and the same thing, the caddy is detected, the drive and rive model show in the baloon in windows, but nothing else, won't show as a drive at all in My Computer, or in Disk Management. Its simply spins up, clicks loudly 2 or 3 times, then slows down to a slower spin
Any tips on a next step to trying to recover all her videos, pics and documents would be appreciated!
