Hi Guys,

About 4 years ago I actually used some advice on here to build a system which has been working great, running some of the more recent games fine (sc2 etc).

I believe the graphics card has just gone however:

Was running a game, got weird diagonal wave-like lines, while in sc2, followed by a complete freeze, so had to restart. Figured it may have been a one off, so tried again, got a similar thing.. Tried a different game, got the same thing..
Now I can't even see the bios boot up screens etc with the card..

I managed to connect to my computer via my laptop on the network, so the computers actually booting ok etc, just no display.

So I guess my first question is: I am right in thinking its a goner?

Leading onto: Any recommendations on a v.cheap replacement card that may may give similar performance?

I'm planning on building a new pc around xmas so don't need anything powerful, but it would be nice to keep this computer working since I can give it my kid brother.

Rough specs: 1gig ram, 520w psu, duo core 2.2 ghz (oc'd to 3ghz) from what I remember if that helps..

Cheers for any help guys (sorry for the wall-o-text!)

Full card details -> Point of View Geforce 8800 GTS, its a big double-slotter with an inbuilt fan, quite a beefy looking card

Figured so, any advice on cards roughly the same spec? or am I wasting my time and may aswell get a really cheap budget one to simply use as a desktop?

Hi thanks for the reply, I understand its outdated and intend on building a new one.

Just want to be able to use it for the next 2 months (money etc..) until I can build a brand new one, and offload this comp to a family member.

Guess I just want to know for around £40 (The card i mentioned above) is that enough to match the previous card I had? Or can I get something even cheaper?

Wish i kept bit more up to date with hardware =)
