Hi there, turned on my machine this morning and my 9800Pro is outputting nothing! Swithed it for an old Radeon 7500 and that works, but will not output to my two monitors.

I really can't afford this right now, but I can't be without a PC. Is it worth buying another AGP card or do I upgrade the MOBO and get a PCI Express.

My Current spec is an ASUS PC4800E Deluxe and a Intel p4 2.4c. Can anyone recommend?? I am thinking of going to an AMD this time!

I am guessing I can't get a MOBO+Chip+GFX for £300 that will be half decent???

Thanks for any direction...

£300 should get you something decent I think, such as the Asrock Dual Sata II, an AMD 3700 SD and a not bad gfx card, you could stay with AGP until you have more money for a better PCIe card.

I put a cooler in there too so you can overclock that 3500+ :)

Hmm, thing is when I got my machine it was the best thing I could get.

PC4800E Deluxe
Intel P4 2.4c (Clocked to 3Ghz)
Corsair Platinum (2x512) 1gb Dual Channel
Western Digital Raptor 74gb (System and Apps)
Maxtor Diamond Max 9 Ultra 120gb (For Data)
ATI Radeon 9800pro

I do lots of Graphical work in Photoshop and tons of time in Nuendo (Cubase, audio application). I do play games but rarely, however I like them to work properly.

What I am saying is, I don't just want to drop to basic stuff because of this and am I right in saying that all I could get would be cheap low performing stuff for £300?

Would It be better to replace the Video Card, or is this money down the toilet?

Just get a 2nd hand 9800 to replace what you already had then, if you were happy with the PC and it was doing what you wanted it to do :)

If you do a lot of graphical work you might want to buy a Pentium D 805 and OC it a bit.

Edit: You could always buy an AGP and PCI-E motherboard (if they do them for LGA-755) - that way you could always improve your graphics card.

I would rather have a warranty than grab something second hand, mostly for reasons that I have discovered this morning!!

Whats the best under £100 card I could get that would function on AGP and be as good/better than the 9800Pro?

I think It would be a shame to upgrade now and get crappy stuff when I would prefer to get good gear when I can afford it!

I know the 7800GS thing would be best, but for £200 it is too pricey for an ageing system

There are x800GTO's? X1600Pros' ??

I have decided on getting a new x800GTO for £110. This will see me to next year when the new intels have come out and prices have settled maybe making AMD's cheaper...

That make sense??
