A friend has asked me to look at his computer. When you press the power button all the fans spin up no problems, but all that is displayed on the monitor is "no signal detected". Tried it with a different monitor to no avail, so I've came to the conclusion that it's the graphics card. So, is it definitely the graphics card or could it be something else? Oh, and am I right in thinking that all pci-e graphics cards are backwards compatible with pci slots?

Thanks.

It could well be, but you need to try another graphics card to be certain.

A bad motherboard might still allow the fans to spin-up but without ever booting.

Can't help you with your PCI, PCI-E question, sorry.

PCIe and PCI are not backwards compatable.

It is possibly it could be the graphics card, could aslo be the RAM, CPU, mobo possibly even the PSU.

I would suggest removing all componants that arent essential, USB ports, sound cards, hard drives, opticals etc.

Then try booting with just 1 stick of RAM in, if that doesnt work, try another stick.
