Dead imac g5

Hi there,
My parents have been having trouble with an imac g5 recently, I dont know much about apple macs. Anyway, when you first turn it on the apple start up tune plays then the blue screen then this happens - see picture below.

Hi, I recently had a similar problem with an Imac G5 except it had a single purple vertical line on it - this looks like another monitor fault. I have managed (by calling applecare) to get a repair free of charge even though its 4 years out of warranty.

It seems this is a very common problem (see link below)
