Hello,
A friend from work has asked me to look at their sons Dell laptop.
He purchased it from Ebay and when it arrived the keyboard was loose. They plugged the charger in and the charger light kept going out. So they bought another charger. The charger light stays on but the laptop doesn't do anything.
I currently have it in pieces downstairs. Out of about 10-12 screws only 5 are actually there. When I opened it up I noticed that one of the screw connectors was loose as well as a small piece of plastic was broken.
I think it has been dropped at some point or just a very dodgy salesman. He paid cash so is screwed really at getting a refund.
When I connect the power cable I can hear a ticking (sounds like horse hooves) from the cpu/fan area. I have had a look and nothing appears loose. So it appears that it is recieving power, however upopn pushing the power button it does nothing.
Any suggestions for other things to try before I rebuild it and tell him its fubar'd?
