Hi guys,

I've just tried powering up and old HP, XP-era laptop (but with Windows 7 installed), and although it makes all the right noise, and I think getting as far as Windows, I'm not getting any display... I've tried all the usual; Fn+F4 and plugging it into an external monitor but no joy :(

Any ideas?

Does it have a VGA out so you can test on an external monitor? This may prove if it is just the screen?

Would've been my first call, but he specifically stated he's already tried that!

When you say no display, do you mean no display at any stage, even through POST and in the BIOS?

That's right, apart from the fan noise and LED activity, I get nothing... no post screen text, nothing :(

It's not looking good is it?

:(

Do you have a HDD caddy you could use to test the HDD in another PC? Might be able to salvage something from it at least...

Already on it! It was the first thing I did, image the drive ;)

It's fine, the machines had a good life. I just wanted to make sure it was nothing obvious before I got rid.

Thanks people.
