About the booting 'issue'; when does the display appear? At the login prompt or at desktop? Would I need to be able to enable automatic logins if it's the latter?

You get a black screen until you need to log in. Not much of an issue.

What does this mean for booting from a disc or recovery mode, does it still work once loaded, just no grey screen and apple logo?

You have a black screen until log in. I don't think you get the boot menu either.

if you have bootcamp though, you can use disk utility, to get into bootcamp, and bootcamp tools/utilities to get back into OS X

Have a look at this, showing how to install a normal GPU in a Mac Pro.

Not the most technically minded folks, but at least tech from the behind the camera is useful.

Fools never checked what power connectors the GTX670 needs.

Well it worked. Haven't had a chance to fully test it yet but popped it in and it's recognised in the system summary. Thanks for all the help.

Enjoy your new card! Don't bother with Cinebench as a test, it's not very good for OS X, especially for new cards.
