Got a call from my sister last week, her PC (which was built by her friend) went pop and wouldnt turn on again.

So I ordered this PSU and fitted it today

The lights on the (XFX) motherboard come on, but when I turn the system on, all the fans (CPU, chipset, GFX) all start to turn but stop again - they literally twitch. 2 more lights on the motherboard come on, another blue and an orange.

If I hold down the power button, those 2 lights go off again, press it again and the same thing happens.

So I'm assuming the PSU has taken out the mobo at the very least, but is it worth carrying on replacing bits?

It's only a C2D (not sure what speed) with 2gb RAM, so would it be worth just cutting our losses and ordering something like this?

sounds like there could be a short somewhere. You could try taking the whole thing apart and put it back together again.

generally if its a fault cpu/memory, the motherboard will still power up, and just not work, usually with warning beeps.

so if that doesn't work, its possible the mobo is dead. Unfortuatlly if it is, theres no way of knowing if the rest of it is still working or not, unless u have means to test each componant

i presume you have gone back to basics, 1 stick of ram and gpu?

reset bios?

i can get quite expensive chasing down faults
