Hey guys

My mate has a Dell XPS 8100 and we were changing the RAM in it and the mobo is now dead we believe. It is making a beeping noise and wont do much else.
Dell DH57M01 Studio XPS 8100 Motherboard T568R LGA1156 < is the PC and motherboard in it just now. Would we be able to buy a H67 board from OCuk and replace it?

There are no H57's on OCuk that I can see

Cheers

you've probably done this but make sure the ram you've installed is fully pushed into the slots. if it beeps several time when booting up im pretty sure that's a memory problem.

is the ram compatible? does the old ram work when put back in?

looking at that mobo inside it looks like a standard board so you could probably replace it with a different one, which is lucky

not sure weather youll be able to put a new board into that dell case, lots of dells are desinged to blow any upgrade up!

Aye we have tried the old ram still the same beeping noise. It's two beeps close together then again a few seconds later.

Would you guys be able to link us a mobo that is compatible with it? and a new case if need be. We changed the PSU and GFX card too which worked fine (Corsair TX750m and MSI GeForce GTX 560Ti OC Twin FrozR II) The upgraded RAM we tried to use was G.Skill RipJaw 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Dual Channel Kit [F3-10666CL9D-8GBRL]

Sorry for the essay of a reply any help is appreciated!
Cheers!!!

Have you cleared the CMOS settings. If the memory won't run at the timings stored in the BIOS Then it won't boot. Clearing the setting should force a redetection.

Worth a try ... rare for a board to fault on a memory swap unless it was powered up at the time.

Cleared it all still no joy :( Looks like the board linked above will be getting bought

Woah wait, you do know you will need to reinstall Windows, it's always recommended to do so when changing the motherboard to avoid driver conflicts. Even then, the product key might not even work on it since it's a Dell OEM copy. You need to contact Windows to reactivate the key and hope it works, if not then you will need to buy a new copy of Windows.

Take everything out of the case, and rebuild the system with only the basics, and try see if it works then.
