Will be fine for a minute or two. Put a block of metal something on top?

CPUs rarely die. Were you OCing?
 
In theory if it gets too far hot
The CPU protection should shut it down
That was my assumption when I have done it
Likewise it was for very short time just to test if something
Was dead or not
 
Right. I can short the power pins on the mobo with no cpu and it will turn on. as soon as i put the cpu in i get no life at all. ('ive tried multiple times) CPU dead then?

Not much else can be since its not going to be
Bent pins since it happened on already running pc

5600x arrived and installed today and we're back cooking on gas, so yeah faulty processor. At least I can get some gaming done.

It does, i had this experience recently with an airlock in the AIO. Once the cpu passes 105c (3700x) it shuts down automatically. It won't turn back on straight away either until its cooled down to a more acceptable temperature.
