Help! DS4, dead Mothorboard?

I have a Gigabyte 965P-DS4, C2D E6300 and 6400 1GB DDR2 Kingston HyperX RAM, Sapphire X1950 XT 256mb, ThermalTake Silent PurePower 560W PSU, 160GB Sata2 HDD.

I set up the computer with everything in, but the fans spun and nothing else. No beeps etc or monitor output.

I've just tried taking out *everything* and the only things plugged in are the mobo, case speaker and CPU, but still no beeps. I tried putting the RAM in and turning on, same again - fans but no beeps.

Do you think the mobo is dead? Any other suggestions?

Bump :(

I've come to the conclusion the mobo's dead... anyone agree?

I also tried to clear CMOS and removed battery but no luck. No keyboard flashing either.

apart from the obvious (being sure things are plugged in right)

Try to be sure the board isnt shorting on the case or something.

ALso can you test the PSU?

Same thing is happening to me, gigabyte " " S3, geil 2x512 6400, e6300, hiper 425w psu, 7900gs.

No beeps on startup and nothing on monitor(not even no signal stuck in stand by)

Currently I have it on the box with CPU, 1 ram stick, 1 gfx.

Chain of events: power on -> psu fan spins, gfx fan spins, 4s in cpu fan spins, cpu fan spins for around 3-4s then all fans stop (like no power) then automaticly starts again all fans spin.

I have tried with my hiper 425 psu and generic 400w psu and same thing happens, when I remove gfx and ram there still is no beeps.

I have tired with the speaker plug both ways on front panel audio just incase and nothing, also when I plug the keyboard into the ps/2 slot on the motherboard and its running without anything on screen I can toggle the num lock key off and on (proof mobo works?).

My main problem is that I dont have any othr computers I can try with switching ram or gfx card.

sorry for long post and (no doubt) terrible spelling and gammar late + sore fingers :(

it could be possible that your reset button is jammed in. also, make sure you got the speaker on the right header.

Yeah it's all plugged in right, I checked the mobo isn't shorting, PSU works fine in another computer.

Sucks doesn't it. Gigabyte support is closed until Jan 9th apparently - can you imagine the backlog they're gonna have :(

I don't have the reset switch plugged in... just the power switch. I'm sure the speaker's in the right way (red in the positive, black in the negative/data).

 :(

might be worth checking that the clr cmos jumper is on the right pins?
just a thought :)
Yeah defo on the right pins

I had an idea of swapping the backup bios with the main bios, but the chips are soldered onto the board rather than those removeable ones.

Does the monitor try initialize at all or does it just stay off?

Is there a stray jumper loose or out of place?...... motherboards these days sometimes have jumpers you rarely need to touch but perhaps one is loose?... or not connected correctly?...

Doesnt that board have a molex type connector on it to?.... is that plugged in?.... if so have you tried it without?..

You can also start the PC with a screwdriver head, short the pins, and at least it takes the power button out of the equation, if same result plug it back in.

Just chucking ideas out there... ;)

what about the 4pin to the mobo?
sorry if we are being obvious but it can happen to be missed in the excitement/confusion of set-up :)

I'm grateful for any suggestion, whether it be seemingly obvious or not!

When I put the last bit in I was confident that it'd work and thought I'd be gaming away in the next few hours... *sigh* but these things are never that simple (not for me anyway)!

I've tried with and without the 4 pin to the mobo

I'm honestly stuggling to find *any* jumpers on the motherboard..!

I just tried the power switch thing, just worked the same way so I don't think that could be the problem...

Thanks for the suggestions :D Anything else anyone can think of

It's literally just sitting there with the mobo, case speaker, power switch and CPU installed. And PSU obviously :p It should beep to tell me there's no RAM installed, at least.

Just for the sake of advising other people if they have the same problem, I have also tried:

- Another PSU
- Another 20-pin to 24-pin PSU Adapter
- Both of the above
- Jumping on the mobo*

None of the above worked :p

*no, not really

It's worth noting that just because the fans spin when connected to the mobo, it doesn't mean the mobo's getting the right power. Many vital components run off 5v, and if the 5v has failed you won't notice that by looking at the fans - they're on the 12v rail.

I think I might be able to borrow another Skt775 processor from someone. If I do manage to get it to POST with another CPU, I'll flash the bios to the latest one.

Are there any DS4 bioses that are known to not work with an E6300?

Also, does anyone know why the DS4's F4 bios isn't available @ the gigabyte website? What I'm hoping is that there's a problem with the F4 bios, and I have the F4 bios. If that is the case then replacing the CPU might get it to post, then I could flash the bios to a C2D supporting one. I'd be lucky if that was the case though ;) There's nothing wrong with being optimistic, eh - as long as you don't mind being dissapointed if things go wrong

Other suggestions welcome :)

I solved the problem, and it turns out that it's all just because I'm stupid...

There are three power connectors for the motherboard.

Top left (4 pin), top right (molex), and one underneath top right (24 pin).

Lets let this thread sink, eh :p Haha

I'm a wally, but at least I'm a happy one now! Hoorah!

(saying that, I haven't plugged a monitor in yet, but it beeped a few times so it must have got to POST :D)

/goes to install gfx card etc

I am getting the same problem unfortunately
Gigabyte 965P-DS4, C2D E6300 and 6400 1GB DDR2 Geil RAM, Sapphire X1950 XT 256mb, Hiper 580W PSU

switch the power on and the fans spin (except the CPU fan?) then the computer goes into a cycle of resetting itself as described in post above. All three power connectors are plugged into the mobo 4pin CPU, molex (apperently for PCI-e), and 24pin ATX, as well as the PCI-e plug into the g-card.

no idea where to start

(and how do you tell what BIOS you have if the comp will not start?)

You can't, unfortunately :(

Tried clearing CMOS? And tried starting without the RAM (should get a BEEP)?

There are definately bad DS4's out there.

Try Gigabytes support, I dunno why it flashes with a message saying they're away until Jan 9th, because I got replies from them within hours of sending my message:

kinda sorted it, didn't get any beeps at all at first, now managed to isolate it to one of my RAM sticks, so the computer now works with 1GB installed. Hoping its a BIOS problem with dual channel or something, will try again when I've updated. Hope I don't need to return it as I imagine I would have to rtn both sticks and be without a PC for a few days.

Well this is my first post on my new rig!

I just *need* to say this; I swear microsoft can't program properly. The windows install CD kept telling me I had a damaged hard disk when I tried to format! So I tried an SP1 CD, which said the same thing... So then I tried a "Professional Corporate Edition" CD... which said the same thing! I almost started to believe it! But then I stuck the HDD in my brothers computer and formatted from inside windows, then put it back in this PC and it worked. *Claps* congratulations on making a **** install disk, Microsoft!

Anyway, back to installing drivers and the usual array of stuff :p
