doa4
Hi,
Let me just say first i have played this game to death for ages now. This is possibly the most technically minded game for the 360 and definately not meant for new comers to beat ups, it is definately more focused towards the hardcore DOA series fans.
The first time i went online i got the 20 loses in a row achievement straight away as i got owned bad, by a normal B grade player. Now unless you are one of the hardcore DOA players and know all about stunning, countering, blocking, escaping and maybe frames you wont get anywhere fast online.
As said above its fun if you are playing with friends who are new to the game too, actually its a good laugh tbh. However, as soon as you take it online and play people who are serious (and most people online are, probably a bit more than they should be about a game

) you'll notice exactly who hard it is to win.
Contrary to popular belief this game is not a jump in and just beat the hell out of your opponent, once your start to play with people who have mastered all the basics and moves you'll start to have some seriously tense games.
Now i'm by no means at all the master at this game (well, i'm madfruit's master in burnout revenge, but thats another story

) but if you want i could happily show you some of the basics, as i still do enjoy this game a lot.
However, the main tip i would give for any totally new player is this - don't try to counter every move, especially when online. Some good players only need to use a stun move and their best combo and finisher (have an ace one for hayate - 13 hits) and the match is basically over. As a general rule of thumb block A LOT more than you counter.
DOA4 IS a great game, very frustrating at first, but once have the basics down you'll realise how good it actually is. This is not a game you'll pick up and own at straight away.
Oh yer, as im finding now, don't worry if you get totally owned in survival mode. As part of the most recent DOA4 patch and its infamous "character balancing" the survival mode has been made exceptionally hard - even for seasoned DOA players - see the xbox forums. If you are going to try survival, try it before you update.
Wow i have rambled on a lot here

Good luck man.
