Came home today to find my desktop would not turn on, I press the power button, the fans spin up for a split second but nothing happens.
Im using an xfx power supply thats maybe 4 years old and an Asus crosshair 4.

The power and indicator lights on the mobo come on when the psu is connected.

Once the PC startup fails and the fans have quit trying, I have to hold the power button down to discharge the mobo before it will try and attempt a spin up again.

Any ideas what it could be?

Ive taken the whole thing apart and cleaned the dust off but still no joy.

I really need to pin it down as I dont have the cash to buy every suspect component just to test it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thats really helpful, cheers.

Bridged the black and green and the fan span for about a second, then nothing.

Guess thats my answer

Yeah I built the whole thing 5 or 6 years ago so replacing it wont be a problem. Thanks for the help :)

Any advice on a decent PSU? been looking at the modular Seasonic M12 II 750w, but is there any better out there for the £80 mark?

Ive heard some horror stories about the Corsair units arriving d.o.a and not lasting 3 months so ill avoid those I think.

That Seasonic is an excellent unit. The two below are also excellent. You won't go far wrong with any of them to be honest.

YOUR BASKET
1 x EVGA SuperNova G2 750W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £89.99
1 x SuperFlower Leadex GOLD 650W Fully Modular "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £79.99
Total : £179.58 (includes shipping : £8.00).

10 year warranty on the EVGA!? wow

Im tempted to with that over the Seasonic which only has 5 for the peace of mind.
