arggghhh hi all, im tearing my hair out about this. my main pc (spec below) suddenly just cut out the other night mid use...was browsing the net and it died. the pc is about 6 monthes old, never had any issues before and havnt recently physically touched anything hardware related to the thing, or plugs.

Anyway, i decided to take everything apart and rebuild it and still the same problem. the pc starts up, it wont post and theres no beeps. all fans are spinning and the green and red lights next to the power button are on a constant flash.

took one of my older pcs and tested another gfx card and ram in my broken pc. no change...so that rules out the gfx card and ram. also unplugged all pci cards, dvd drive, hard drives and tried again...still the same problem.

so if the thing wont post with just cpu and gfx card attached it means there must be a problem with either the mobo, cpu or psu...the question is which one?

can anyone lend any words of wisdom my way?
thanks

oh dear...i think ive found the problem. just pulled the 4 pin plug out of the ATX12 plug (im guessing this is the one that supplies extra power to the intel cpu) and the plastic plug is looking decididly brownish!!!!

ok.....so that probably means that my psu is fried...or at least useless as theres only one 4 pin plug for the cpu.

.........what kind of condition is my motherboard likely to be in?

is it worth plugging in another psu to test or could it be the motherboard causing the problems and it might blow this one aswell?

hmmm now im really confused. a mixture of happyness and worry.

my pc just booted up fine! no problems whatsoever! temps seems ok (30-35) checked 10 minutes after booting.

check out pic below of the browned cable.
