I've got a computer at work a colleague has asked me to look at, It turns on, but nothing appears on the screen, as there is no on-board graphics chip, and its an old machine it uses AGP graphics.

My first move was to swap the graphics card, but no luck,

I then took out all the sticks of RAM and put 1 in the first slot. - Still no luck
I tried resetting the bios via the CMOS battery as there was no jumper pins

CPU is generating heat so I assume that's not what's blown.

There is a light on next to the RAM on the motherboard.

I've removed the hard drives, I don't even get a POST Testing, also if you try to open the cd drives the open halfway then automatically close

anyone got any idea whats up? My guess is motherboard had gone, but i'd like a second opinion

Fixed, finally. There was a cmos reset jumper that i couldnt see, was hiding under neath loads of cables, sorted now :) feel a bit silly as resetting the cmos by taking the battery out was the first thing i tried, obviously didnt work, ah well cheers :)

Okay, I am still having problems with this machine, I try booting up and I get BSOD stop 0x0000007B code. I have tried booting In safe mode and last known config, nothing. I havn't done a disk check yet, But I will do shortly. I have also replaced the CMOS battery for a brand new one.

After everyboot, I have to reset the CMOS via the jumper. I think the BIOS needs upgrading.

can anyone help?
