Dead PS3 - Thanks Sony!

I guess PS3's are not as robust as I guessed. They survive a 4,000 mile flight but moving them from upstairs to downstairs kills them?. Internet went dead a few days ago after the 2.7 update so I spent a few days playing Dead Space and UT3. Managed to get all but 1 trophy on Dead Space with 4 chapters remaining before platinum and a truck load of progress on UT3. But my PS3's display output decides to fail before I can re-sync the trophies exterminating loads of progress, and to boot, SCEA refuse to touch it because its a UK PS3

I'm extremely angry with Sony as I was not expecting a PS3 to die 6 months into its life and to be given the middle finger back and to buy another. Just waiting on SCEE's reply e-mail as to if it is dead or not. Shipping costs to return it will be almost as much as buying a replacement, but since this is the second time I've been screwed by Sony (first count was because of the Lik Sang derailment) I doubt I will get another PS3. At least if the sucker is dead, I get to vent my anger on it.

Unlucky Senture. I share your pain. Hopefully you'll be able to get it sorted out without too much trouble. You seriously not going to get another ps3 because of graphical corruption?

I'm not planing to get another PS3 for 2 reasons. 1) $400 is a big bleeding problem right now, not to mention how much of a pain in the arse the PS3 can be (not found a media streamer that will actually work) and 2) why should I give a company money that gives you the middle finger back?. If i wanted a console that was going to give up on me I'd have gotten a 360 (sorry 360 owners, but I sure see a load more dead 360's here than PS3's).

There isn't even a TV to use, unless I want to freeze my nuts off in the process. I really can't see me enjoying games constantly freezing :\

THERE ARE NO SHIPPING COSTS, well i haven't and sadly ive had to return mine :( plus its a pretty easy deal tbh, and there's no 2 week wait like some other consoles, life isn't perfect and certainly no electronics are :)

dude, what are you on about

edit: ah so youve moved, miss read still cant see much of an issue tbh, of ps3 has less than 1% return rate

I'd write a letter to someone higher in the rankings to get it sorted out, its a disgrace that you lose out because of moving abroad. A strongly worded but polite letter will prob do the trick. Good luck :)

I was going to say. Sony have never hidden the fact that they wont touch import machines. Much like other companys wont either...

Thats not true Microsoft fixed my original US xbox after a bad update free of charge.

Have a chat with a supervisor and see if they will take a look at it for a small fee. Also try using a standard def. cable as the digital and analogue video outputs are on seperate chips

Its still been imported to the US though aint it? It hardly matters if its been sent by post or taken with its still imported.

personally I think OP is making a mountain out of a molehill

MS may have done it in the past - whether they would now is another question entirely, absolutely no reason why Sony should support a UK machine in the US, and plenty of reasons why they shouldnt.

I feel for your bad luck but thats all.

Maybe you should have saved your games onto a usb drive - sold your UK unit on here for £200 or something , and when you moved you would have had about $300 towards a brand new US PS3 with full gaurantee

Hind sight is always a fantastic thing. It would have been the best thing to do at the time, but time was not on my side. I had under a week to make my mind up, organise transportation, pack up, organise computer shipment and sort out my business.

It might have been a little more of a concern had the machine been older, but to have the console fail in a little as 6 months of usage sucks. What's really bugging me now is Sony's refusal to acknowledge my e-mail from last week even though their automated responce says they'll respond within 24 hours.

I managed to get an unstable picture on one TV and backed up some saves, but a large number of saves had copy protection. SCEE finally got back to me and said it's dead but did not offer to repair it. Doesn't matter because before they got back to me, I vented my anger on my PS3 with a hammer. Not the best way of doing it but as it was dead, who gves a damn.
