Is my PS3 dead???

I rarely use it (30 hours use in 4ish years) however I thought i'd play a few games, that was until i turned it on and it refused to read any games discs.

Is this common, and is there a fix (preferrably cheap due to low use!)

Does it play dvds?

Mine stopped playing blu rays and games but would still play dvds. Its a common fault in the older models. the blu ray lens is probably borked - you could try cleaning it which might solve the problem (some guides online) and i think there are some other tips such as resetting to factory but none worked for me.

I chucked a CD in it, works fine.

Blu-ray....nothing :(

Took it apart and cleaned the laser but no change. Its such a pain, owned 4 years, used for a handful of hours and doesnt work

My Blu-Ray drive died after 6-7 months from brand new (Christmas just gone) and it had quite a bit of use, maybe a similar hourly usage to you. At that point it wouldn't read any disks at all so Sony sorted out a collection and refurb in it's place.

In your position I can only suggest getting a replacement drive perhaps if the cleaning doesn't work.

Well SOGA suggests i have a claim for upto 6 years especially considering the purchase cost and the incredibly light usage but I cant see sony playing ball without a court summonds.
