The USB problem suggested is credible and worth checking for. Some power supplies are just more sensitive to minor connection faults.

The fact that the hotwire failed to start the PSU when it was outside the PC probably does mean that it’s faulty.

Okay so what do I check for then, just make sure the connections in the front USB ports are not bent? Or touching each other? There is four contacts on a USB connection right?

Like you say I think the PSU was just faulty as hot wiring did nothing, but it would probably be best to check the USB connections as I don't want the same thing happening to this PSU.

Out of interest, would it just be a 1 year warranty on this new Antec PSU?
