Dead Space 1 Difficulty

I've been playing Dead Space 1 on Easy, because I'm a pussy.
I just noticed in my save games, my saves for level 4 and 5 (as far as I've got so far) show a difficulty of Medium, and the earlier ones show Easy.

Does the game automatically change level as you go through it? I've only started the game one and this is puzzling.

EdiT: i notice my first level 3 save is Easy, and later level 3 saves are marked medium. Looks like the game switched difficulty on me during that level for some reason.

I dont know if this is how it works, as i've never played it, but I have heard of games automatically changing the difficulty depending on how well, or how badly, you do. If you are going through it too easily, perhaps it put the difficulty up? Are you finding it too hard now?
 
I may be thinking of the wrong game but I seem to remember Dead Space on PS3 asking me if I wanted to switch difficulty during the game around Chapter 2, easy up to normal. Was doing a plasma cutter run (that I never finished) so kept it on easy :p.
 
I started my second playthrough just before DS2 came out, I wanted to complete it on insane, and around half way through the game I noticed it had changed to hard. Was thoroughly ****ed off.
 
I found on the steam forums several people reporting a bug that when you restart using the Continue Game button, the difficulty can change randomly. Several people had their Impossible difficulty saves wiped and replaced by medium difficulty - they were not happy!

10-30 years ago, I enjoyed playing hardcore, and always chose the highest level available to me. Now I play for the story, since I don't have the time to keep up the skills and level-learning knowledge needed to play at the highest levels. I usually only play 1-2 hours once or twice a week.
In first person shooters, I usually pick the Normal/Medium difficulty, but games I'm unfamiliar with get stuck on Easy at first. If i finish it and enjoy it well enough, I'll play again on a harder level.
 
I recently bought d1, and completed on medium... what a brilliant game. probably the best one ive played in a long time.. shame I missed the hype when it first came out, but least I had the chance to enjoy now :)

im hoping d2 will be just as good!!
 
I use a trainer for inf health and things to upgrade weapons and cash. Trying it for the story mainly as i dont like horror games.

Coward i know but meh.

Oh and flamethrower :)
