Dead Space controls borked

got a couple of phone calls from mates who claim they cannot map their own keys to this game, they like to play cursor style instead of wasd, as i always play default mapping, and they are right, you try and change the default keys and your character does not respond to them and walks around in circles.

anyone having same thing here? is the game in need of a patch ?

Sounds like the game miight be ported from a toy computer, if so, that's par for the course.
Heard the same from a mate of mine too.

Use a 360 pad.

just checked EA forums, and yeah , no way to re map keys. doesn't look like EA are going to release a patch any time soon also.

i own a pc because i like mouse and keyboard controls and when someone releases a game on the pc i expect them to at least get the very basics right.

lucky for me the wasd keys is what i use, but many people want to change those keys .

You can get applications that will re-map keys for you within windows so that might be the best route.

Sadly I can't think of the names of any of them at the moment but I'm sure a quick google will turn up some results.

Dead Space is a port of a console game, its best played with a pad but still plays ok with keyboard/mouse.

Console ports get lazier each release, I'm surprised they even gave you the option to use keyboard/mouse...

Not being able to remap keys from the game options is absolutely ridiculous.

It's not actually an FPS though and I'd imagine that they'd need to rebalance the entire thing if they let people play with the full accuracy and speed of mouselook.

Not that I'm really defending them... The mouse chuggery annoys me immensely.

Whether or not you prefer mouse+keyboard normally, it's a game that plays far far better with an xbox360 controller so if you can go that route you'll save yourself some hassle and enjoy the game more.

how can they use that, a lot of keys are close to the WASD for easy access like the number keys to change weapons :confused:

If the controls cannot be changed it is either go with WASD or a controller but a controller also means aiming with a analog stick instead of a mouse.

i dont use arrows, but some people just wont budge from what they are used to, and rightly so, there should be options.

Anyway i can get a PS2 controller to work in this game? ....i use it for FSX all the time. (connects via USB)

I disagree, preferred it with keyboard and mouse.

Just make sure you fix the mouse lag.

Damn it, i tried KeyTweak to remap the arrow keys, applied, restarted, test in notepar and all fine (up arrow gets 'W')... try it in game and arrow keys wont respond, have to use wsad again

just use wsad - u never know u might get used to it. I was a stict arrow key user from back in the day with doom3 and quake and followed it on to cs. But im trying to learn the wsad way cuz lets be honest - its a lot better over that side of the kb.

How do you fix the mouse lag?

I tried to remap the keys to the number pad as I am left handed, no go, some keys would not work for some reason just like BF2, was a real game breaker.

Mouse lag can be done by disabling V-Sync in game, then I enabled triple buffering in the NVidia control panel...If you have and ATI card theres probably something similar I would have thought.

I found the menu screen HORRIBLE to move the mouse in, so I looked for a fix instantly

yeah is poor control wise on pc specially if your used to arrow keys i got rid of pc version and played it on ps3 was much better lol
