I've only played the 2nd but people are saying the 1st is better. Waiting for it to drop to £3.74 on steam before contemplating buying it though. What do you guys think?

Dead Space 1 is vastly better, number 2 just feels like i'm retreading the same steps. However going from 2 to 1 you may feel the same.

There are some true brown trouser moments in the first few minutes of the first game as well.

The more 'brown trouser' moments the better imo. There are literally no horror games anymore that make you not want to continue playing because you're too scared (except for amnesia)

A few tips for a more pleasant gameplay experience:

- Disable in game V-sync and force it via drivers. Not sure if this needed with AMD, but it definitely helps on Nvidia cards.

- Force anisotropic filtering in control panel, sharpens the textures hugely.

- Disable in-game AA (edge blurring) and use the SMAA injector. Looks far better.

Thanks for the advice

Mouse controls were definitely terrible with in game vsync on. Improved quite a bit with it off but still I found it subpar. Almost easier to just play with the 360 pad...

I didn't think I'd like the game at first mainly due to the 3rd person perspective but I got use to it quickly and didn't mind it. I liked both games but the first was better.

Both good games.

One has a better setting, the second irons out some of the pacing issues and awkwardness of the first, but isn't as menacing.

I enjoyed them both, though I preferred the second over the first. Not sure why, maybe I had simply warmed to the series more by then. It was the same for me with Bioshock. Sometimes I wonder would my thoughts change significantly if I went back and played them all again.
