driving home tonight loud scraping/screaming noise from passenger side car feels rubbish, managed to limp it home, sounds like drive shaft or a joint somewhere, noise went away when I put the clutch in so I dont know whats happened.
Best bit is Ford cant fit it in for 2 weeks, im gonna give them hell in the morning cos I told them it had a funny noise (slight clicking) two months ago and they told me they couldnt hear it and to wait until it got worse, well now it has in big style, luckily 5 months left on warranty.

Any advice on how I handle ford and get a courtesy car out of them.

If it doesn't feel safe to drive or you are concerned about doing further damage then I don't think it is unreasonable for Ford to pick up the car IMO.

exactly especially when they said there wasnt a problem a few months ago, if they had just fixed it earlier then it would be cheaper for them and less agro for me. When you buy a car with a warranty you at least expect them to fix it and give you something to drive whilst they are fixing it, its not like we all have spare cars.

I assume along with the warranty you still have RAC cover included. Give them a call and they will take it down.

Did this start off as a knocking sound when changing gear?

yep it did and ford said two months ago they couldnt hear anything, but I could and told me to come back when it got worse

its a focus ST-2 225 2007

If it was a metal clunky sound when changing gear its likely to be a gear shift bearing. Which I understand isn't a pricey job. I was worried when I could hear a clunk changing in 5th/6th at very low speed e.g. 20-30mph but it does this in no other gear.

So next year when she's in for a service I'm going to ask them to change the bearings.

yeah but now it feels like the bottom of the car is going to feel out and a screaming/scraping noise is coming from the passenger side footwell, so its not going anywhere so they can fix it under warranty

i wouldn't wait until next year, i'd get it sorted pronto

to the op, i think you are within your rights to have them pick the car up on a trailer. if they say they can't ask them where they'll stand if something goes seriously wrong on the way to the dealership? their service department should also give you a courtesy car if they have fair notice.

im not gonna go mad at them as its not really their fault I just dont want to have to shell out for a hire car while they take their sweet time over it, just gonna be assertive and to the point and get it to them tomorrow and hopefully get something to drive I dont even care if its a KA, and its only got 15k on the clock so I dont think im being unreasonable the cars basically new

well well well, inchcape couldnt get me a courtesy car or look at it for two weeks !!! so my other half goes isnt there a ford dealer down the road, we have just moved so never noticed and yes, guess what caffyns sorted me out with a fiesta to use and took my car in today, I limped it round the corner just!

just goes to show big dealers dont care, even the guy said to me we get loads of people from them as they dont care about warranty work and put it to the bottom of the list, wont be getting my service at inchcape guildford any time soon!!

update: dealer called me to say they cant strip the gearbox as its failed some how and dont have the tools for the ST and ford wont let them order in a whole new box, so it has to go to inchcape, so they took away by courtesy car and I have to get green flag to take it to guildford, so im stuck with no way to get to work and they cant look at it until the 10th wooooppieee!

:(update: called them today and they said they are waiting for the new gearbox as ford have just authorised a whole new box. Why wasnt this ordered on Tuesday, when they looked at it, I will never know. He said to me it might take a few days as its coming from Daventry I was like WTF its hardly the other side of the world. Ive given them an ultimatum fix it by the weekend or give me a car. Im gonna write and complain like a mofo after ive got her back.

Inchcape Ford Guildford - Never Again! and neither should you

update 2: Got a call today to say gearbox is on backorder and they dont have an ETA, to say im fuming is an understatement, apparently they cant get me a car until a week on monday and its fords policy to only hire a car for a customer if a car part is taking longer than 14 days. What a bunch of ******* ****s Ive had enough to say this will be the last ford I ever buy!!!

Sadly I doubt you'll get very far - they don't have any obligation to provide you with a loan car as far as I am aware.

It really shows why Ford are in no way a premium brand - I wouldn't expect this level of service from BMW or Mercedes!

my mate had a one series that broke and he had a similar experience to me they left him hanging for weeks before he got a hire car, it was only 12 months old as well, ford said if mine was 1 year or less I would have had a car in two days its pathetic

That is shocking. Did they actually charge you to have the car moved to the other dealership too?

I would get onto consumer advice to be honest.

Kinda, I had to use my recovery insurance and it only covers 10 miles and the extra miles cost me £25, Im getting onto ford customer care at 9am to see what I can get out of them

oh well managed to call ford uk HQ today and ask switchboard for the directors office fax number, So i typed up a good letter and faxed it off to the director of ford UK, Will see where that gets me.

Update 3: Was woken up this morning by the phone, was Ford telling me that my car was ready. Apparently the gearbox came in yesterday but their system was showing it as backordered and by surprise it arrived at the stealers, all fitted and I just picked her up. Fun time is resumed!
