Had a phone call from my sister saying the PC their PC had died

Apparantly the screen had red and green lines across it and went off, when they turn the computer on (or off cant remember what she said) the CD drive comes out, and windows will not load past the loading screen

Had problems with this pc for a while now, used to randomly reset quite a bit, but i think thats due to it needing a new PSU as i did upgrade it a fair bit from stock.

Any ideas what the problem could be then?

Reckon it is the PSU? Ive told her if it is anything to do with a virus or anything that im not fixing it as ive told her more than enough times about it

Cheers in advance :)

video issues, on board or graphics card??

has onboard but i then installed an ati9800pro with cooler into it

would that have caused the random resets as well, and why has it now decided to die and hasnt done for the past 2 year or so? lol

Random restarts point towards a dodgey psu but could be a ram problem. Have you tested the ram using memtest?

Have you tried starting it in safe mode?

even dodgy software or a driver could explain the random restarts, but i'd double check the psu. memtest those sticks as well one at a time for an hour or so, then reseat the graphics card. make sure the onboard graphics is disabled in BIOS.

its definatly not software as the pc has been reformated a few times and still have the random resets.

ill stick memtest on a USB stick and take that up, the PSU was my first guess to be honest because i did upgrade it a fair whack to when it was bought

cheers for the input guys :)
