'Deadliest Crash' BBC4 now

Wow, what a horror story that was. Decapitated people, bodies sliced in half. Even in 1955, those cars had top speeds like current day F1 cars, only without the technology and acceleration.

Quite a poorly produced documentary to my mind. Lots of inaccuracies, poor narration and generally botched together stock footage to pad out the program. Missed Moss's perspective and when it finished I didn't feel I had learnt anything new.

Is there a better account you'd recommend either in documentary or book form?

There are quite a few chapters in Mon Ami Mate by Chris Nixon, Chapter 21 'Le Mans 55' and Chapter 22 'Guilt or Responsibility', which contains all of the images used in last nights documentary start it off then it goes into Chapter 23 'The Fall Guy' which focuses on Pierre Levegh's role into Chapter 24 'It was all my fault!' is Mike Hawthorn's perspective. Chapter 25 goes into the aftermath. I also have other books with full summaries but they are not sitting in my downstairs bookcase! :D
