Deadwood is surprisingly historically accurate. I thought it was a made up place but most of the characters were real people and they really is a town called Deadwood where Wild Bill is buried. The story of Wild Bill is quite accurate right down to the words people were quoted as saying. I'm going to have to visit one day and stay in Seth Bullock's hotel.

I worked a visit to Deadwood into a cross country roadtrip I'd planned last year. Injured myself a month before and had to cancel :(

Deadwood the series was absolutely excellent.

Deadwood the place was a bit plain. Only drove through it but there didn't seem like very much to see or do. I suspect the main attractions are just over-touristy "authentic" saloons.

I was also surprised at how accurate the series was, with many of the characters based on real people. I just really wish they hadn't cancelled it. It shouldn't matter how much it costs to make when it's a thousand times better than any CSI rubbish. It seems to be an art dictated by money more than most.
