Dealing with blisters...

Chop your foot off. It's the only way to be sure :D

i posted a thread on blisters a couple of weeks ago. I've solved mine by buying proper running socks from JJB. Recommend you do the same :)

Kind of extreme I suppose....:D

You can get cushion plasters which may help when you put weight onto those sore spots.

Agree. They do sell special blister plasters, but are like £4 for 5. Work an absolute treat though and its like having a gel cushion over the blister.

Friction blisters should be popped and drained of all liquid (With a sterilised needle) the skin should be left to protect the new skin underneath. Be carefull ataching plasters that you get the sticky bits on good skin not on the blister as you could be in trouble when you peel them.

to avaoid blisters get better socks, soak your feet in vinegar to harden them and use Zinc Tape on the areas in which you are prone.

All advice from the Royal Marines which has worked for me in the past!

*Side note don't do this with burn blisters poping them is a bad idea as the liquid in the blister helps cool the injured skin.

My views:

Good socks will help prevent blisters. Keeping skin moist and soft will help prevent friction blisters. I use 'cracked heel' cream on areas of hard/dry skin as a matter of course. Vaseline rubbed into feet before a long run may also help.

Popping blisters - the needle hole soon blocks and more liquid will accumulate. But if you do pop it cover with a blister specific dressing such as compede - the area must be clean beforee applying to prevent infection. These dressings are not designed to be removed until they fall off.

Hardening feet - get a blister under hard skin and its untreatable. Get a big blister and whole lumps of skin have been known to come away. Hard skin that dries out is likely to crack.

There's an excellent book I've mentioned before - looking after your feet, maybe out of print at the mo though.

Zinc tape is good, iv used duck tape before though!

Some foot powder to stop your feet sweating will help too

Okay, got some blister plasters on them. The question is, should I put thick socks on and go for a run tomorrow, or wait until the blisters are gone?

Yehh, get out there. Slap a bit of vaseline over the top of the plaster as well. If it starts to feel like it's burning then stop, slow down or walk.
