Just wanting some advice to avoid this escalating out of hand.

I'm currently renting a property and have been for just over 1 year now.

For the last 10 months I've been putting up with a neighbour who has their surround sound booming from the time they get home from work to often well past 11:00pm. This can be heard in every single room and means I no longer use my living room as it's too much. I've tried to approach this tenant by knocking the door and also with a letter through the letter box but this hasn't worked. I'm now writing a letter to the company that manages the property.

Never been in the situation so if you'd word it differently please let me know.

Hello,

I'm currently renting a property that CPBigwood manage, it's ******** in *******. I am renting flat X which is a group floor flat.

For the past 10 months I've had major issues with TV/music volume at flat 10 who is next door. It's constantly at a level that can be heard in every room in my flat, even ones that have a room in between. This has rendered my living pretty much redundant as it's impossible to drown the noise out without annoying the flat above me. I'm not the only tenant that has noticed this, flat 13 directly above flat 10 and the flat directly to the left of flat 10 have all complained of the volume. This usually starts as soon as he is home and can extend well past 11:00pm.

I have tried to contact the flat 10 be knocking the door and dropping a note in his mailbox but I've seen no evidence that this has worked.

I'm at the point now where I am not wanting to renew my tenancy agreement unless this can be resolved. Would it about possible to get a letter sent out to the tenant of flat 10?

Kind Regards

Start a diary, speak to the council. They'll come around and confiscate their stereo if found to be too noisy.

If it was me, I'd put some speakers I have onto the wall and play my own music, hopefully loud enough to bother him.

Not sure what a sensible option is though.

Contact landlord via management co, contact your landlord for added pressure - he won't want to lose a tennant so might raise it with their landlord.

Lastly contact environmental health, if it is every night they can come round and give him a warning, if it continues then they can confiscate his equipment.

Basically what dowie and niel_g said, if the noisy neighbor isn't renting then it's likely the building management will do is send a letter but it sounds like that's unlikely to work.

If you do end up going to the council/environmental health then it's best if you get more tenants to complain to back your case. Also time doesn't matter, you can complain if he's creating any sound at anytime that you would deem unreasonable.

Good luck!

Not entirely true... And from experience a diary will just take control of your life and make you more alert to noise. I would move ASAP unless your council is strict and can monitor 24/7. If they are a normal 8am to 5pm Enviromental health department you are probably screwed.

I lived next to scumbags for a few years and tried that and they did nothing. The landlord did nothing, The council shirked it off and in the end up i had to move at my own cost. The scumbags still do the same drunken stuff with massive dogs. I even had the police out who were going to arrest me for assault because the family decided to be smart and block the driveway like a human chain. And when i moved them they tried to do me for assault but scattered when the police told them i could use reasonable force to enter my own home.

If i told you what i really reccomend after my own experience, I would probably get a ban or another call from the police.

A friend of mine back when he was a student, used to play loud music at all hours until his angry, Welsh neighbour came round with a 4 foot length of 2 by 4 and told him to turn the <expletive deleted> music down.

He stopped shortly after. (Like about 3.7285 nanoseconds after).

4am, youtube, 12 hours of cat fights, deny any knowledge of having cats.
