Dear George,

My name is Tom and im 25 years old. When i was youngster i used to spend many an hour playing the likes of X-wing and Tie Fighter joyously progressing towards the final stages looking forwards to the best fighters i could get hold of, Configuring laser/engine power in order to get away from a-wings in my gunship or power the ion cannons to disable the rebel shuttle whilst fending off attacks from waves of Z95 Head hunters.

Of recent times, i have grown more and more restless in my desire for a **** pit based space fighter based soley on the Tie Fighter / X - Wing series - surely we dont need any more failed fps or rpg jobs - because they have been rubbish in the past.

So please George - fix it for me.

Thanks

There hasn't been a "proper" space combat game since Freelancer I'm afraid :( It's a shame, because they used to sell like hotcakes. I guess the market has changed.

Its lucky George Lucas reads these boards..

Or that might have been Gilly..

Ahh.. i forget..

X3 controls were waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too complicated and fussy plus *** game in general was massively compicated too - we need a space and mission based flight sim shooter - not a trading / diplomacy / fiddly / 2000,000 keys head ache.

Oh StarLancer... why did you have to end :(

fastwunz: You HAVE played X-Wing Alliance, right? I only ask because my mate is a fan of the X-Wing / Tie-Fighter games and he missed that one... made his day when I told him :D

yeh lol - i played it - still not the same though - i want to be back in an Xwing in the middle of space witht eh 'pew pew' noise of the lasers, concentrating on my radar for the next traget and checking my sheilds at all times - you know what i mean lol - plus, with todays graphics we could have the huge cruisers engaged in laser fights like we see in the films - the games have never lived up to this

I still play Starlancer - its ace- love the coyote!

I dig out that 'ol classic at least once every year, love the FMV sequences too :)

Tie Fighter was my absolute favourite. The music, the missions... the sheer atmosphere. I haven't played a game like it since...

That wasn't a "proper" space combat game at all. FreeSpace 2 was about the pinnacle...some other games come close.

Perhaps a mod fo FS2_Open to the star wars universe would (get shut down in no time) work...

Erm, that is what X-wing alliance is like - or am I remembering the wrong game? It's like X-wing but with better graphics, we used to play it over the LAN at Uni :D

Get yourself an online petition going and spread the link for it about, the signitures will soon start shooting through the roof. Lucasarts will only make a new one if the demand is great enough, show them that it is.

I loved the games, pick a badguy, match speed and start blasting.

Id be happy if they just remade the old one.

If only i had the programming knowledge, we could start an opensource Xwing game :D

Pick up a copy of I-War, or I-War 2 on the cheap.......Great fun. I prefer I-War though, I find it more gritty and rewarding to play.

Both very competent though and the fights in I-War are great.

Part of the (15 minute!) intro from I-War. Gives you some sense of the game...

Lots of managing your shields/weapons/repairs in that...great fun.

I loved both... but yes, the original is my favourite. Fantastic, exciting battles while trying to manage damage control, complete mission objectives etc... Newtonian physics made the flight-model more realistic without spoiling the playability. Great story and graphics (well, for the time anyway).

Fix it for me too, I loved the x-wing/Tie series, tie-fighter especially. All those special missions you could do, gave me a warm fuzzy feeling inside :p

arent there mods for freelancer to get starwars ships?
