Ok recieved all my new stuff today, 680i mo bo, conroe chip, 8800

put it all together fine, booted from cd, got the blue screen where it asks you to setup windows, it copies the files from cd then says 'restarting' then it restarts, theres some HD and CD activity then it stops, the tower is on but my monitor doesnt start up, what could be the problem here, I used the very same disc yesterday and all was fine, any ideas?

the only thing I can think is when it looks for drives/partitions it finds my C:/ drive and it finds an 8mb unpartitioned, I press L to use C and it seems to delete the files really fast, I thought it took ages, do I need to delete c:/ when asked instead of pussing L to use it? could it be old files of mine fing up my monitor on the second restart of installing windows

please help someone, any ideas or suggestion appreciated.

Don't know about others but it sounds like a memory problemto me.

Bad memory will corrupt the files that are copied over to the hard drive at initial stage of installing windows (just after formatting the drive), and that's probably why you get the BSOD as well. So what RAM are you using?? if you have more than one sticks of RAM try using only one or change sockets to see if it helps.

Also what PSU are u using?? 8800 is a very power hungry.

Had a similar error myself the other day. Newly built system would choke after copying the Windows install files over to the hard drive and restarting.

Turns out one of the IDE cables was slightly loose, so just gave it a quick shake, and job's a good 'n :)

also check temps in bios, as for the fact it deletes file or whatever quick then yes thats more than normal it does delete the partition fast. Prehaps also download memtest.

ok I just tried again, this time I completely deleted/formatted my HD, it copies the win files, restarts and no monitor again! what on earth could this be? seriously Im losing my patience with this thing now.

I have an enermax liberty 620 w.

oh what order is the best, I clear the cmos (otherwise I get nuthin) then set boot priority then restart?

Try clearing the CMOS, boot into the BIOS and then hopefully you have an option for "load defaults" or something like that. Do that, re-boot, go back into BIOS and set the boot order to CD drive first, then the hard drives.

Now try the Installation again.

Are the drives SATA or IDE?

ok managed to kick into the proper windows install, have to clear cmos in between.

so I fiddled with some ide's inside before when I was searching for a solution,
and now my new enermax psu is making a funny noise, its like a high pitched scatchy noise, almost like something is slightly pressing on the fan, Im totally puzzled as Ive checked and checked and I cant see anything, tried to move it around a bit, re-screwed it in, still the same thing happens. What could it be, the gold fan cover metal on the fan iteslf maybe?

between the 8800's large appetite and potential psu probs, can you try a different gfx card temporarily (or a different psu)?

Okay Ive totally narrowed it down

its something to do with the reset function. I managed to install windows in the end, then I installed some mo bo drivers and it asked to restart I said yes and blank screen, I dont even hear the familiar beep before the monitor goes on, the monitor stays off.

Seems the only way to actually see anything is clearing the cmos memory everytime it restarts.

What does this point to? my reset power in the mo bo, my reset button works if I push it, It seems to always do it if its the computer doing the resetting, any settings I need to change?

Try raising the memory voltage in the BIOS, I had to change mine from the default 1.8 to 1.9 (2.1 for a lot of 800mhz ram)

Oh.....................my...............god

Im a total and complete spanner! seriously, I could just say I fixed it, I could just not post, but my sheer stupidity that has had me through blood, sweat, tears and rubber gloves, was just one tiny mistake I made

sometime in the build I clearerd my cmos with the jumper...I just didnt put it back, so obviously I (thought) I was clearing it and putting it back I was doing it completely the wrong way round

(goes red)

Love happy endings. Sure we have all made silly mistakes.

Not quite happy Im afraid, Ive had to send back my enermax Liberty 620w as it started buzzing all the time.

This has been nothing but a hassle, think I may just go and buy a 360, at least the friggin thing would work better than this.

don't be so sure, everything has problems, and knowing your luck, it will be yours that has the problem ;)

In fairness only the PSU is faulty, the other problem was as a result of your own doing... ;)

Hope the new PSU is all ok for you.. ;)

nicely done! i've managed that before too, but i have never had a pc that would boot with the jumper in the wrong position, so luckily it gets fixed almost instantly:D:D
