Hi all

This may be in totally the wrong place, basically my mother in law has been told she has around 2 weeks to live (bloody cancer)... We've been sorting through everything and getting the funeral planned up, the issue we're having is a loan she took out many years back have said they can write the debt off if we send in the death certificate, however the certificate is in her maiden name so we don't know where we stand with it

Any help appreciated

Thank you

Send the marriage certificate alongside it? Or ask them?

Didn't think of this :)

Why don't you tell them this?

Will get the missus to give them another call and explain all this

Pretty much this. Has she been making any payments under her married name ? If so they surely have a record of it. With a death certificate you can ask her bank to stop all payments out of her account so any creditor then has to wait until you sort out the estate.

Sorry to hear. Cancer is a ****. It took my mum too.

Yeah pretty sure she's been doing a few years of payments in her married name, yeah cancer sucks, it took 3 members of my family in the last 2 years

Sorry to read this. Do you mean the loan is in her maiden name, as I assume you don't have a death certificate yet? When you register a death the certificate can contain previous names.

Ahh that would be great then if we could add previous names

Sorry to hear this. When the death is registered (all done on the phone now) the name on the certificate can be put as first name(s) surname formerly known as first name(s) different surname.

Thank you will have a look at what it offers regarding names, thanks
