Deauthenticating a dead computer?

I have a minor issue - following the demise of my old MBP I can no longer de-authorise it and hence I have lost one authorisation.

The only other issue is the MBP is registered under a previous apple id - which I can't remember it's name (ie when I first bought it).. so I can't migrate it :/

Anyone managed to get a dead computer de-authorised?

You can de-authorise all the computers then re-auth what you want, but you'd have to know what the apple id is.

Given iTune support a prod and see what they say..

Not that it's a massive problem. According to apple's faq, you can deregister all machines once a year when you reach 5/5 however the option doesn't appear until you have 5/5!

As said, de-authorise all. Don't bother with iTunes support unless you like generic emails which don't address your problem.

I've also got a machine which I formatted before I de-authorised, so it's handy to know that you can de-authorise all if you need to.

5 does seem like a low limit however, I think 10 would be more sensible...

Top tip; if you haven't got enough computers to hit the limit (5), try making a few virtual machines.
