Been having a debate with a couple of mates over the last few days about the 0-60 of a 306 gti-6.

I remember seeing somewhere that it was late 6's early 7's but my mates say it would not keep up with a clio 172 (6.7's).

I believe the Zsara VTS is around 7 but only has a 5 speed box?

Can anybody clarify the 0-60 please ;)

It's about 7 seconds but whether it would keep up with a car 0.3 seconds quicker to 60 is all about who is driving rather than the car in question. I suspect it would, easily, if only becuase keeping up with a car is far, far easier than leading.

Depends on what you mean by "keeping up" to be honest. In a straight line, or round simple flowing corners there would be nothing in it. However, get a twisty B-road into the equation and I feel the 172 would start to say bye-bye.

What makes you so sure?

I had a feeling it was around 7's but most of mates said it was around 8.

Yeah the 172's handle really well and gti's have twitchy bums so the gap on the B road would increase IMO.

Is the standard 6 speed box close ratio in the gti?

The Engine:
The Gti-6 has a 2.0l normally aspirated 16valve 4 cylinder engine that puts out 167BHP at 6500rpm. It generates 193Nm of torque at 5500 rpm and revs all the way to 7300rpm!! Most importantly, the Gti-6 was the first mass produced car to utilise a 6-speed gearbox!

The 2litre na engine pumps out 167BHP. This can propel the car to 60 in around 7.4 seconds and on to a top speed of 140MPH. The Rallye fairs slightly better with its lower weight and can get to 60 in 6.9. The reason these figures appear to differ in a lot of reviews of the car is entirely Peugeot's fault. Peugeot's stated 0-60 time for the Gti-6 is 8.5 seconds, however, the small print in the Peugeot literature states that this 0-60 time is for a full laden car with passengers and luggage.

maybe not the best source in the world but:

Great stuff thanks. Seen a couple of videos on youtube and there was a saxo vts v 306 gti drag race. The gti didn't take the lead until 3rd gear.

I guess the 0-60 of 7.4 is pretty accurate then as the 0-60 of a Saxo VTS is also around that time. :)
