Debating what card to choose!

Hello chaps!

I'm currently building a gaming computer and I have worked out what components I want and need.. All except the graphics card!

I'm currently looking into purchasing the;

Gainward GTX 580 "Phantom" edition, as it looks fantastic and I'm really only looking into using one GPU at the moment, possibly SLI in the future!

I was wondering whether Gainward are a good company to go with? I've mainly used EVGA in the past and they were great! But I'm really tempted with this GPU a lot!

I also wondered whether to buy the 1.5 or the 3.0GB version?
This pc will be primarily used for gaming and that is pretty much it!

Any other recommendations and feedback would be fab!

Cheers

I see your point, but what I'm asking is do I need that 3GB for gaming? The card looks great, it's clear that the 7970 would be the clear choice but is the Gainward worth the mullah?

Cheers

I don't really have an answer for that one, I haven't been gaming in about a year due to other commitments, but I was looking for a high resolution, high detail, I want to be able to run blu-rays and have a good resolution as well. 1080p?

Cheers

I've not used Gainward but have used EVGA and have never had problems with them, added to that they have a warranty on mostof their products that will last the life of the card

I've had Gainward cards before. They worked fine until one went pop. But I rma'd it for a slightly better and newer card without any quibbles, so I'd recommend Gainward as a good company.

I would go with the 7970 as well, it gives a lot more future scope for multi monitors, and is better in all respects than a 580. Or wait until Nvidia's 6** series cards, but expect to pay a premium, possibly up to £600

I do agree with you about EVGA, they are great and I still have a 7900GTX that runs a treat except it's a bit outdated now and I really do need a completely new computer, I've just looked and seen that warranty that they do, I'll take that into consideration! The only problem is that I've hardly come across any threads where people discuss the Gainward 580, I'm only making such a fuss because it looks awesome! Lol

If you are about to do any overclocking, i would not recommend gainward/palit card. They use cheap components ie. for vrm.
Look of the card is cool tho and I thought about it too when I was figuring which one to buy.

For overclocking the MSI ones are quite good as it does not void their warranty (think this is providing the voltage is left)

Ahh thanks for your input guys, it's helped a lot I'm still unsure with what to go with as I always used to go with the AMD cards (ATI) and they were great, had no problems in the past at all with running games, but I eventually switched to Nvidia and had a 7900GTX and 8800GT, I suppose that's how I got hooked on Nvidia and found that it felt as if my games ran smoother, perhaps it was just me I don't know!

Anyway to the point, I understand that the 7970 has not long been released, it makes sense to go with the card as you get double the amount for less money, but are these cards faster than any other Nvidia? For example a GTX 590 (which is basically two 580's put together)

Once again cheers for your help guys!

Wasn't really looking to overclock the GPU just yet, still trying to work out how to overclock the CPU when I come around to it (you could say I'm a newb at OC'ing) yeah it's the looks of the card that seem to do it for me, it's a shame as it does look great, but probably doesn't perform to the same standard!

Cheers guys

I am too now, latest technology and there a loads of reviews about it, the price is a bit steeper than I expected so I will have to do some more saving lol!
