Behind you... Naked!
Been toying about with Debian as of late...

Enjoying it actually.

One snag I just cone across however that I simply dont really have a clue as to what is needed to cure it, so before I go jumping in with my size 9's ...

I have just installed the ATI Drivers like this...

sudo sh ati-driver-installer-9-3-x86.x86-64.run

I assume thats correct, but it all seemed to go well, but now its only giving me a black screen.

So, I need to know 2 things really

1 - I am assuming that things have gone ok but its doing some screen mode my Monitor does not like ( Although it should be displaying an OUT OF RANGE Box, and if it was ) and so I might have to manually adjust it.

So, how can I both resolve this, and set the screen to 1280x1024 ?

One in teh same question then.

I should think your xorg.conf file is broken. Now you've installed the ATI driver it's a good idea to recreate it using the aticonfig tool.

First backup the current config for 'when' something goes wrong:
su cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bkp

Next, make a new config:
sudo aticonfig --initial --force --input=/etc/X11/xorg.conf

Reboot, and it might work. I have never used ATI so don't know too much more im afraid, but hopefully that will give you a usable X11 then you can manually configure xorg.conf to get your correct resolution.
