Time to play with this inferior operating system....

First off I need to need to know what version I have installed.

cat /etc/debian_version
3.1

Ie Sarge but whats the difference in release versions ?

3.1r1
3.1r2
3.1r3
3.1r4
3.1r5

???? !!! How do I find out ?

How on earth do you figure Debian to an inferior operating system? Compared with what? kubuntu? Give me a break..

Its a bit of a moot point anyway as the first time you run apt-get dist update you will be brought bang up to date anyway surely?

yeh but the OS I have has a varying level of patches some from r4 r5 and r6 what is pretty difficult to work out is one simple question....

" What was the version that was first used to install the OS  "

Surely it can be answered by you lot of debian gurus

Note how I started this thread :

" Time to play with this inferior operating system.... "

Time to play : Implying my lack of experience with this OS and hence with the lack of experience comes the l33t remark that because one doesn't know one shuns it :o

How can you install an OS without knowing which version you've just used?
