Debian To Consider Changing How It Treats Closed-Source Firmware

Wouldn't hold my breath. They've "considered" this so many times and then decided to just keep going like they've been going since forever.

Yeah i know as it was years after the original vote, what i was trying to say was that even when they do have a vote on something they don't accept it.

Lol what a weird situation then. These days I keep out of the politics. I'm not interested in arguing on the internet over this or that contract. I just use the the distros and leave the arguments to the so-called "tinkerers".

Not the first nor the last fact proving us right on our quest for freedom of choice, minimalism and security. Systemd users are guinea-pigs for bloated software that is insecure-by-design

Out of interest i just had a look at Devuan to see if they are still around and this was is a tweet from yesterday. :D

As a Debian user in both Desktop & Server uses, I personally like the split-out of the proprietary/closed source/blobs into a separate repository. I think the issue comes down to wanting regular users to consider it and not needing to 'figure it out', as opposed to 'it doesn't work' and moving to another distribution.

Full disclosure, I am using the non-free repository on my Desktop machine to allow full use of my GPU capabilities. My servers do not require it, and as such are only using the main repository. Mileage will as always vary depending on the hardware in use.

The choice is there (one of the main reasons I use it), but perhaps needs to be better explained and advertised during the installation or liveCD tryout process.
