Hey guys,

Can someone post a link to what ISO file I can download so I can install Debian on a standard PC that would normally run Windows?

Ubuntu may be a better idea for an introduction to linux. More things are likely to work out of the box and installation is nicer.

That is the standard install C.D.

It includes the G.N.O.M.E. desktop environment.

As above Ubuntu is probably a better flavor of debian if your trying to find a desktop replacement.

I actually started out with Debian.

If you're up to speed with computers then you can actually learn more by starting with Debian than an easier distro like Ubuntu.

But conversely if you wanted an 'ubuntu like' system that wasn't for the desktop i.e. a server or something, then Debian is the one. Also, there's nothing wrong with debian on the desktop I have it running in a few places here.

if someone is used to ubuntu and they wanted a more bare bones type system, I can't think of a better choice than debian?

Personally i think Debian would be better suited running XFCE by default rather than Gnome...

Debian's 'default' is twm.
