So i recently spent £150 buying something (not from overclockers, dw!) online with my debit card.

as it happens i logged onto my online banking (natwest) and my balance was +£150 but available was 0 (using simple numbers for sake or argument). That seems fine, natwest systems seem to have been quite slow for me since Christmas.

So i logged onto today expecting it to have caught up and my balance and available both be 0. However they are BOTH back at +£150. And I've got what i paid for

am i a very lucky boy or could it just be a delay with my bank account?

Don't get chuft and spend it, more than likely a delay and if it is an error it will always be retraced and you will have to pay.

if it's an error and you exploit it you'll get ****ed in the *** by the bank, so just leave the money there imo.

With a debit card transaction, the money isn't taken out straight away, it's just put up as pending transaction on your account, which only affects the available balance. With Natwest, pending transactions sit on your account for 3 working days, after which they drop off and the money becomes available again. Normally, the money has been claimed in this time, but some stores can be a bit slow. Authorisation codes are valid on your account for 60 days (or at least used to be), so the store can take the money from your account at any point during that time.

Happened to me too. It will be noticed and taken out of your account. For me it took three weeks, but it was taken again.

The initial transaction will earmark your account for the £150 to stop you over spending, but as Vixen said these normally only last 3-4 working days when the drop off, within that time the Retailler has normally processed the transaction and code there end and it would have cleared.

Obviously this hasn't happen, be aware though the retailler can have upto 2 years to claim the money...

Funny one..... my ex's Mother bought something from Woolworths in Pwllheli a few years ago and paid on a debit card, that night Woolworths burnt to the ground and the charge never hit her bank account.

Dont ask me how or why as I've no idea.... bear in mind this was quite a few years ago though.

In hind sight she should have cleared them out lol :D
