Need some help here guys,

Come home today to find yet another letter addressed to the previous tenant of our home. We have lived here for 5 months now. This one did not have a return to sender address on it, so we have opened it. Its a debt collection letter off a company called Marston Group, and it says the following:

Marston Group Limited has been issued with a WARRENT OF EXECUTION issued by the Traffic Enforcement Centre of Northampton County Court pursuant to statute. The warrent authorises our Certified Agents to seize goods for sale at public auction. If you wish to avoid this and the costs of execution involved, you MUST PAY THE FULL AMOUNT WITHIN 7 DAYS of the date of this letter. If you fail to pay AGENTS WILL ATTEND your address and you will be loable for the costs of the execution.

(Then in red writing): NO REMINDERS WILL BE ISSUED

The only contact details on the letter are for the 24 hour payment line, and the email address [email protected]

We have called the payment line as this was the only telephone number, and they have advised that we need to prove our residence at address by sending a copy of our council tax bill and our tenancy agreement? Obviously this is something I do not want to do.

Is there any sort of template letter that I can use to stop these letters coming? There are numerous credit card companies chasing her as well. The last thing I want is bailiffs at the door

Fail. Don't open letters not addressed to you.
Should have just writen "not known at this address" and chuck it back in the post box.

Edit: also now you have contacted them expect more letters/baliffs.

Bah we had that for the entire last year we were at uni. e-on wanted to come take our stuff because the previous tenant had not paid any bills. We got letters from bailiffs and even a court summons!

Just ignore it or give it to your landlord. Our landlord said he just threw them in the bin anyway :D student accommodation f.t.w.

Yeah, should have just written 'Return to Sender' on the mail and put it back in the post box.

* I'm not going to judge you for opening previous tenants mail. Back when I was a student living in a student rented house, when we moved in, we discovered a chest of drawers in the hallway was just full of previous tenants mail. We ended up adding to it ourselves until it just got ridiculous, so we decided to throw it all out, but opened it while doing so. A couple of interesting items included a Driving Licence and a letter informing of the death of an Afghan.

At the end of the day, if Baliffs do come to your address, they can't enter it if you aren't there. Ultimately they can't take anything if you aren't the person they are chasing, if they mess you about and try and claim you are hiding her or something, just call the Police.

I think you've already ended up wasting enough of your own time.

You should have just ignored it. I had this a couple of times in rented flats and ignored all of them. As far as I'm concerned the debt isn't mine so any attempt to recover assets would be theft.

this,
and if any baliffs turn up DO NOT LET THEM ENTER
