Decent ADSL2 modem/router

Hi folks,

I am currently running a BT HomeHub 2 and whilst it seems OK, other than the odd connection drop, I'm looking at changing for something decent. I recently bought a TP-Link 5 port unmanaged Gigabit switch for £13 online which works flawlessly with the hub, giving me 1.0Gbps connections to my other machines. It has no QOS but then who really needs it at home? It's only me who uses the network :)

Are there any good ADSL2 modem/routers out there? If so, which ones do people recommend these days?

Was looking at perhaps a TP-Link modem router but have no experience with them.

I have just brought the TD-W8960N, so far so far! Easy setup, connected straight away, no disconnections as of yet, download speed increased.

QoS! IP Filtering! All the fancy stuff for a very good price! Would def recommend it!

Budget?
I'd like to recommend the Billion 7800N, based on other peoples experiences, but mine turned out to be rubbish - Very poor Sync, lots of errors. It's almost certainly faulty, but i'm using it as a Wireless N AP where it performs superbly and can't afford the downtime whilst it RMAs.

I'm currently using a Cisco 877, which I can't fault if you want advanced features like IPv6/QOS etc, but this is not for the novice user.

My Netgear 834GT with the DGTeam firmware has been a very reliable spare. I'm using a 2Wire 2700HGV (AKA BT Business Hub) at my parents place as it is very stable and syncs well on long lines. The firmware is rubbish if you want advanced features though.

Hi

Sorry to hijack.

Can you check your log in to your router and see if you have any errors on your wireless.

Ok - thanks. This was actually one I was looking at. Good to know. The problem is, my HH2 seems OK, apart from the odd disconnect a few times per week. I had the HH3 and obtained an 8MB sync on it but I had issues with ethernet. Wireless worked OK and I did have the type B HH3 which was supposed to address ethernet issues. My problem was that I had a network connection and windows reported it correctly but trying to surf the web was not possible, I couldn't ping any external sites except google for some reason and even this took about 3 minutes to load the page. I know it wasn't the cable or my machine. Foolishly, I re-installed Windows 7 Ultimate to prove this and even swapped the onboard Gigabit card for a PCI-e intel card, all with the same results. BT sent another HH3 and this did the same so I don't know if it's a bad batch or what. BT technical support said it was a problem with my machine and to seek a local PC expert :) Anyhow, when I plug the HH2 back in, everything works fine on ethernet but the sync speed is much less, around 5MB so I'm wondering if the HH3 has a better modem or something? My theory is, changing the HH2 for another DSL router might increase my connection speed.

Cheers. Yes I saw the Billion and also head it has very good feedback from customers using it but I think the price is just too much. I don't use any advanced features, just after hassle free ethernet and wireless connections.
